About Glutathione (600 mg)

Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide composed of L-glutamate, L-cysteine and glycine. It is distinguished by an unusual gamma-peptide linkage between the glutamate side chain carboxyl and the cysteine amine, which confers resistance to cleavage by standard intracellular peptidases.

The cysteine thiol group is the functional centre of the molecule and the basis of its role as the principal intracellular redox buffer. Glutathione is used extensively in oxidative stress assays, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione S-transferase enzyme systems, and GSH/GSSG ratio measurement in cell and tissue models.

Supplied as a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial. Reduced glutathione oxidises readily on exposure to air; store the lyophilised vial at -20 °C protected from light and moisture.
